Our November workshop with Linda Rohrbough was a great success. Many attendees wished for more time. Attendees learned many new tools and tips to help their writing, including organizational and creative tools, Internet aids for research and story development and lots more.
Our 2011 edition of The Shoal is being printed and the first copies will be available at our September meeting.
Janet Hartman's "Cairn
Mind Meld" plus 100 stories from
other authors appear in Chicken Soup for the Soul: My Dog's Life,
released in April 2011. Janet has copies for sale at the discounted
price of $13 each. Half of the proceeds will be donated to an animal

Nicetas Juanillo was
the guest speaker at the 34th annual NORCARR
banquet held June 22 in Raleigh. (NORCARR = N. C. Assoc. of
Residential Services.) She spoke about adapting to life in the U.S.,
working at Carobell, and publishing a book about the Philippines. She
is currently working on a book that captures some of her experiences
at Carobell and she invited her fellow caregivers to share their stories with her.
Erika Hoffman’s story about taking up writing late in life is a finalist with Chicken Soup for the Soul-Young at Heart. The edition will not be released until Fall 2011.
Grand Fun Studying a Grand Book, an essay Erika Hoffman wrote about her neighborhood Bible Study, has been slated to be published by Mature Years next fall.
Janet Hartman's "Dog Day Surprise" is included in two Christmas anthologies from Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Gift of Christmas, available through Wal-mart, and Tales of Christmas, soon to be available at Barnes and Noble. Her weekly Potpourri column appears in the Long Ridge Writers Group's weekly newsletter for writers.
Erika Hoffman's novel, Secrets, Lies and Grace, will be released 11/1/2010 by Comfort Publishing. This is her first novel.
Brian Coss' "Wavering Creek" won third place in the flash fiction category of the Abilene Writers' Guild contest.
Bill Morris' short story, "Shack on Fire," is published in the 2010 Thomas Wolfe Review. It was runner up in the Thomas Wolfe Fiction Prize competition run by NCWN.
Krisan Murphy's "The Future of our Family" was awarded 7th th Place in the Genre Short Story category of the 79th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition. She will receive a Certificate of Achievement, a check, a copy of the 2011 Writer’s Market Deluxe Edition, and a one-year subscription to Writer’s Digest magazine.
